Kindle Book Smell

I have a Kindle, which is a lifesaver when you have an hour and a half commute everyday on public transportation (no, Amazon isn’t paying me to say this, I wish I could be so lucky).

Anyway, the Kindle is pretty great in most ways, but it’s definitely lacking in one – it doesn’t have a “book smell.” I probably love the smell of books more than I should, but I’m sure I’m not the only weirdo out there who does (last year I was at APE and I think I freaked out a vendor by getting really into the smell of their book), which is why I’d like to propose to Amazon a new Kindle.

Obviously, not everyone can jump up and buy a new Kindle, so I’ve also come up with a more affordable option for those who have an older Kindle.

So, who knows someone at Amazon that can help me push this idea to the top of the pile?

Why stop there? They could have smells go along with the storyline. James Joyce’s Ulysses would be accompanied by smells of eggs and schoolboys and handmade soap and frying kidneys, and then the beach, then beer and vomit… and finally feet. Hercules cleaning out the Stygian stables would be unpleasant but more authentic. Romances would be… really cool.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that enjoys that new book smell πŸ™‚

I thought I was the only one that loved the smell of books…wish someone would make a book smell candle!

The smell of an old, dusty book is part of the allure of reading for me. I love it! I wrote a post a few weeks back about something like this that you might enjoy:
