Castle Ghost

Castle 1 Castle 2 Castle 3 Castle 4 Castle 5 Castle 6 Castle 7 Castle 8 Castle 9

There really should be an Olympic sport for freaking yourself out when you really mean to freak someone else out. I really would win the gold.

P.S. I really did get to stay in a castle though – we just got back from a vacation to Ireland, which has more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the world (note: I made that up, but they really do have a lot). It was my first trip to Europe and I already want to plan my next (after I get out of debt from this one). I will probably have some more posts inspired from our trip. And at some point we need to discuss the fact that the only American beer any pub had was Coors Light (sorry, husband wants me to correct that there was also Budweiser, but I decline to see the difference). Not only is that just pure sadness, but it’s also just really bad foreign policy. Guys, we really do have good beer. I promise.

We did get one Guinness because we were in Ireland, but personally not a big fan of it. (I didn’t say this there of course because I didn’t want to get kicked out.)

Dear Dragon Stuff, I saw a wooden dragon yesterday at the Historic Carousel and Museum in Albany, Or. I met the lady who adopted (I think that’s the right word) Igniter. I’d like to know if female dragons breathe fire, or is it only male. Thanks! Beth

      • The Anxious Dragon says:

Hi Beth, the ability to breathe fire is actually a genetic defect. The particular genes that control fire breathing are only found on the X chromosome. Therefore if a male dragon has the defective gene they will definitely breathe fire, whereas as long as a female dragon has at least one working anti-firebreathing gene, she will not breathe fire.
So in answer to your question, yes females can breathe fire, but far less often than males

  5. Lol we sure do have a lot of castles. The one near to me is haunted and many times we climbed those stairs scaring ourselves silly in our younger years. Would I sleep in it, feck no lol Well done you!

I was amazed how many ruins there were everywhere and that you could just walk through! A few we went into seemed like they might fall in on us. You could never do that in America, everyone is too afraid of lawsuits!

      • Were you up North too or just down South?

Just down South, although I would have loved to go up North, just didn’t have enough time. Are you up North? My husband actually has some relatives in Belfast, so we want to make it there at some point!

          • I’m up on the North Coast, not that far from the start of the Glens of Antrim. Down South has some awesome scenery, I was in KIllarney some years back and loved it, but there are beautiful places up here too 🙂

Yes, it was all really beautiful in its own way. I had to soak up all the green because we’re in a horrible drought in California. I also realized that being Californian I am way too used to driving a lot. Every time we drove to a new town people would ask where we came from and then they would get this shocked expression, “But that’s very far away! You drove that all this morning?” And I’d say, “Uh, it was three hours? Is that far?”

          • lol ah sure the craic is good. See how small a world it is, you have relatives in Belfast and I have an Aunt in California. I was there, but I was only 11 at the time, so it’s a far while ago now 🙂

Irish castles are mostly in ruins — that’s why it’s so easy for the ghosts to get in and out.

One of my besties was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and went to Ireland for her PhD. She fell in love and got married – in a castle! She says it makes her a princess. I agree.

When I was in college, I convinced myself that the Grinch was under my bed. I got myself so wound up that I climbed from my bed to my desk and sat up there until daybreak. Luckily, it was college, as mentioned, so daybreak wasn’t very long from bedtime. In retrospect, that it was college and a Friday might explain how it came to be that I thought that the Grinch was under my bed…
